Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Joao Pedro truth, Bastoni discussions, Ederson to Man Utd?

Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Joao Pedro, Alessandro Bastoni and Ederson.
Alessandro Bastoni situation
Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni has been heavily linked with a summer exit, amid interest from Barcelona, but Romano has confirmed that a decision will not be made until the end of the campaign.
He told his YouTube channel: “Let me start with all the questions we are receiving on the situation of Alessandro Bastoni. Inter Milan won the league on Sunday, but there will be no changes in negotiations for any player during this week. This is because next week Inter play in the domestic cup final, the Coppa Italia final, against Lazio.
“So, until that game, nothing will change in terms of discussions, negotiations, or developments. This week will not bring any changes to the Bastoni story. However, after the cup final, and likely once Barcelona have clarity on their league situation, it will be a crucial moment to understand what could happen next for Bastoni.”
He continued: “Yesterday, Inter president Giuseppe Marotta said that Bastoni is a very important player for the club. He acknowledged interest from several clubs, including Barcelona, but made it clear that the only way a player will leave is if they explicitly request to do so. At this moment, Bastoni has not made such a request.
“The reality is that Bastoni’s representatives have already held multiple conversations with Barcelona since December. There have been direct contacts and ongoing discussions. My understanding remains that Bastoni would be open to joining Barcelona. However, this deal does not depend solely on the player. It also depends heavily on Barcelona and Inter, particularly regarding the financial terms,” Romano added.
“In recent months, reports have suggested figures of €45-50 million, but Inter are not accepting that valuation. Their starting point is closer to €70m, although that could change over time. At present, there is a significant gap between Inter’s expectations and Barcelona’s potential offer.
“If a compromise can be reached, Bastoni remains a top target for Barcelona at centre-back. Otherwise, as mentioned previously, Evan Ndicka of AS Roma is one of several alternatives. Barcelona have multiple options, but Bastoni is the preferred choice, depending on the cost. The situation remains open and will depend on negotiations between the clubs.”
Barcelona striker situation
In addition to Bastoni, Barcelona are also in the market for a new centre forward, although any potential deal will rely on Robert Lewandowski leaving.
“Let me now address the many questions regarding the striker situation at Barcelona and provide clarity on recent reports,” Romano said. “The first key point concerns Robert Lewandowski. His future will be crucial in shaping Barcelona’s plans. Whether he stays or leaves will have a major impact.
“His agent, Pini Zahavi, is currently travelling across Europe to hold discussions with clubs and Barcelona. The proposed contract from Barcelona would be for one additional season, but on reduced terms. This is why the player has not yet approved the offer.
“There is interest from Italian clubs, including AC Milan and Juventus, who have made enquiries. Additionally, clubs in Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia remain attentive. Saudi clubs have been interested in Lewandowski for several years, and he continues to be a name under consideration.
“The situation is therefore completely open. Zahavi will gather feedback on potential proposals, present them to Lewandowski and his family, and then the player will decide his next move.”
Romano continued: “There have also been questions about Joao Pedro as a possible alternative to Julian Alvarez. Joao Pedro is highly appreciated by Barcelona and particularly by sporting director Deco, who has followed him since his time at Brighton & Hove Albion.
“He is undoubtedly a top striker and widely admired. However, Chelsea consider him a crucial part of their project. Despite Barcelona’s interest, Chelsea have no intention of letting him leave, especially during a challenging period for the club.
“Losing Joao Pedro this summer would send the wrong message, particularly after managerial changes and a difficult season. He is viewed as one of the club’s most important players, and Barcelona are fully aware of this stance.
“So, while Barcelona appreciate the player, the situation is similar to that of Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid. These are elite strikers who are both expensive and difficult to sign. At present, there are no major developments, and Chelsea intend to keep Joao Pedro as part of their long-term plans.”
Ederson transfer update
Finally, Romano provided the latest update on the transfer future of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
“In recent weeks, there has been strong interest from Premier League clubs, and that remains the case,” he said.
“The player had previously agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid, but the deal has stalled. Atletico are not willing to meet Atalanta’s asking price of €45m for a player with one year remaining on his contract and no agreement on a renewal.
“As a result, negotiations between Atletico Madrid and Atalanta are currently at a standstill, with a clear gap in valuation. This has opened the door for English clubs to enter the race.
“Manchester United have included Ederson on their list of potential targets. While he is not the top priority, he is one of several options being considered. Another English club is also showing interest, so movement could follow.
“Atalanta continue to demand €45m despite the contract situation. With no renewal in place, this is a situation worth monitoring closely in the coming weeks.”
