Could Chelsea sign Anthony Gordon in summer?

Chelsea supporters have been vocal online in response to recent reports suggesting that the club is interested in signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer — even if the Blues fail to secure Champions League football.

While some fans welcomed the idea of bringing in a proven Premier League performer, many were quick to express scepticism or outright criticism of the potential move. Sources have claimed Chelsea’s interest in Gordon is genuine, with the club prepared to pursue him regardless of European qualification status.

Some CHELSEA fans pointed to Gordon’s strong season with Newcastle and his English top-flight experience, arguing that he could be a useful addition to a Chelsea side that has struggled for consistent goal threats this term. Others, however, questioned whether signing another wide attacker makes strategic sense, especially given the club’s broader concerns over squad balance.

On another Reddit thread, some supporters were blunt in their assessments: one fan labelled Gordon “bang average”, while another expressed frustration at the perceived pattern of linking Chelsea with players they believe are either overrated or not the right fit for what the club needs.

The scepticism on social media wasn’t limited to Reddit. On Twitter/X, several Chelsea fans voiced similar reservations: “If we sign Gordon he better be the final piece — else this summer is going to be another waste.”

“We need a goalscorer, not just another wide body who might drift in and out. Chelsea’s transfer strategy is all over the place — Gordon? Really?”

These posts reflect a broader unease among supporters who feel that the club’s recruitment in recent years hasn’t always delivered the desired impact, leading to frustration when names like Gordon emerge prominently in rumours. Some fans suggested that Chelsea should instead prioritise a proven number nine or a midfield creator, rather than focusing on wingers.

Supporters were also quick to reference Gordon’s performances against Chelsea, particularly his goal in Newcastle’s 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, which left many supporters frustrated. That earlier match saw fans criticise their own side’s display and acknowledge Gordon’s influence on the game — a factor that has since fuelled debate about whether he truly represents an upgrade.

However, not all fans were negative. A smaller but vocal group pointed out that Gordon’s Premier League experience, work rate and goal contributions could make him a valuable asset — especially in a squad seeking to blend youth with proven performers.

Some also noted that linking a player of Gordon’s calibre shows ambition from the club, regardless of whether the deal ultimately materialises.

Overall, while a portion of the CHELSEA fanbase remains open to the idea of signing Gordon,
