Chelsea Defender Wesley Fofana Offered To Barcelona by Agents: Reports
Barcelona have reportedly discussed with Chelsea centre-back Wesley Fofana’s agents about a possible summer transfer. His entourage is said to have offered the 25-year-old Frenchman to the Catalan giants, and talks have been going on in the last few weeks to see if a deal is possible.
Since he moved from Leicester City to Chelsea in 2022, the French international has had persistent fitness problems that have kept him from playing more than 68 club games in his first three seasons in West London. This season, though, the marauding defender has found some consistency, playing in 34 games across all competitions and contributing two assists to the Blues.
The Premier League team are willing to let a sale go through if the price is right, especially as they didn’t qualify for the Champions League. However, the people in charge at Stamford Bridge will only talk to serious buyers willing to pay around €30 million, excluding bonuses, for the 25-year-old defender.
The La Liga giants are reportedly looking into a loan move with an option to buy for a left-sided centre-back this summer. Meanwhile, the Blues are still trying to sell Fofana permanently. There are also reports that a few Italian clubs are interested, which could make it harder for Barcelona to get the Frenchman in the next few weeks.
Bastoni Pursuit Continues To Shape Barcelona’s Center-Back Search
Wesley Fofana is not the only player on Barcelona’s list of possible defenders for the summer transfer window. The Catalans’ main target is still Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni. The 27-year-old Italian international is said to be eager to move to Camp Nou after being seen as the ideal left-footed player for Hansi Flick’s system.
But the Blaugrana’s road to getting the Italian national team player has not been easy. Inter Milan want €70 million for their player, but the Blaugrana won’t pay more than €50 million for the star defender. The value gap has forced sporting director Deco to compile a backup list.
Cristian Romero, captain of Tottenham Hotspur, and Jhon Lucumi, captain of Bologna, have both become possible options in the last few weeks. Fofana is now one of many options, and the Catalans are likely to step up their talks once both teams finish their league games.
