Alessia Russo was disappointed that we were unable to come away from Broadfield Stadium with all three points on Wednesday night.
We had to come from behind to equalise against Brighton & Hove Albion, with Alessia setting up Frida Maanum to finish, but we were unable to secure the win that would have kept us in the Barclays Women’s Super League title race.
Asked for her thoughts on the game, and what the learnings might be from this season, our forward said: “Yeah, obviously disappointing. It’s been a pretty heavy week of football in terms of results and emotions and things like that. But yes, it happens sometimes. We’ve been on the other end of it and you know how football works. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t. It’s been tough but now we’ve got three games left and we want to put all our energy into that and then build on it for next season.
“There’s been some great learnings. I think you’ve seen some of our best football this year and moments and spells. I think it’s just about doing that consistently over a season. It’s long, it’s tough. You have to grind out results in different ways.
“But yes, I think to win trophies over the course of the season, you’ve got to be consistently really good and I think that going into next season, that’s something that we’ll push for. We’ll work really hard as players to do that and yeah, we’ll see what happens.”

Alessia is now looking to end the season on a high by winning our final three matches against Aston Villa, Everton and Liverpool to secure a second-place finish.
“Our supporters are a constant,” she said. “They have been the best through every moment. They’re with us even tonight, still singing as we’re going round at the end. They’re so important. There were so many here tonight and they’re really, really special.
“We want to give them stuff to celebrate. We want to finish second in the league now and secure Champions League for next season and we’ll do everything that we can to make them proud.”
