Chelsea plotting £65m bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender
The first thing that Chelsea need to do this summer after appointing the next manager is to sign a centre-back. The Blues’ defence has been their biggest weakness all season. Yes, their struggles in front of goal are well-documented as well. But when you look back, this entire thing might have started unravelling when Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury in pre-season.
Conventional wisdom would suggest that Chelsea would go out and sign a centre-back, with their best one out injured for the season. They did not. Instead, the club signed Alejandro Garnacho. Also, they chased the signings of Fermin Lopez and Xavi Simons before settling for the loan addition of Facundo Buonanotte.
Let’s just say that the next summer window cannot be anything like the last one. Signing at least one top-level centre-back has to be a priority. And it looks like the Blues have a Tottenham Hotspur player in their sights.
Chelsea shortlist Tottenham Hotspur centre-back
According to an exclusive report from KrrishFT, Chelsea have shortlisted Micky van de Ven as a concrete option to reinforce the centre-back position in the summer. The Blues want to try for the defender irrespective of Tottenham Hotspur’s future in the Premier League, and could offer up to £65 million to sign him.
It is also worth mentioning that no official negotiations or talks between any parties have taken place yet regarding a potential transfer move in the summer. At this point, this is just concrete interest.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will move forward and make a move for Van de Ven or not. It is worth mentioning that the club are keen on signing players who have experience in the Premier League and know what it takes to play in Europe as well. The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back would fit that criteria.
Chelsea eyeing other Premier League centre-backs alongside Micky van de Ven
Van de Ven is not the only centre-back that Chelsea have been linked with in recent times either. They have quite a few others from the Premier League on their radar.
That includes Murillo from Nottingham Forest, who has been considered one of the best in the league for a few seasons now. He has also been touted for a big move for a while.
Another is Jan Paul van Hecke. A lot has been made of Chelsea’s frequency when it comes to signing players from Brighton & Hove Albion. But most of them have proven to be success stories. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Joao Pedro and Robert Sanchez are all starters for the Blues.
