Chelsea take another brutal shot at Enzo Maresca as club’s stance on former manager revealed
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca looks destined to take over at Manchester City, and the Blues were really not bothered about seeing him make that step.
Chelsea’s drastic turn in form in the Premier League can be put down to the managerial change, as the Liam Rosenior experiment blew up in the owners’ faces.
The Blues are now on the hunt for another permanent manager, with the Italian not interested in the slightest at a return to West London.

Chelsea were more than happy for Enzo Maresca to become Man City manager
Maresca’s stock has only risen since he walked out of Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day, and he is the clear favourite to replace Pep Guardiola at Man City if he leaves this summer.
However, Chelsea’s stance on their former manager reveals that they ultimately didn’t care when Maresca wanted to leave, believing they had built a structure where another head coach could achieve the same results.
Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports: “When it came to Enzo Maresca, I think Chelsea felt that he was just a head coach – ‘If he wants to go, let him go.’ If he thinks he’s going to get the Man City job, fine. ‘He can go and get the Man City job in the summer if it becomes available. We have got a great structure in place. We’ll just get another head coach in.”
It was clear that the relationship between the manager and the higher ups at the club had deteriorated, with Maresca going public with his criticism during press conferences.
Any manager good enough for treble-chasing Man City should really be good enough for Chelsea, and it is a situation where the Blues owners need to look in the mirror and realise they have completely ruined the 2025/26 campaign.

Chelsea’s quest to hire a new manager
Chelsea are not expected to announce their new manager until the end of the season, maintaining respect for other clubs who are also yet to finish their campaign.
In the last two days, speculation around Xabi Alonso has intensified, with him being the choice of large portions of the fanbase.
There is also interest in Premier League candidates. Andoni Iraola is set to leave Bournemouth and become a free agent at the end of the season.
Marco Silva and Eddie Howe have also been mentioned, as well as a reported early advance in Barcelona legend Xavi.
