Important offers from Tottenham and Chelsea expected – PL duo register ‘formal interest’

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been chasing River Plate’s Ian Subiabre in recent months.

On March 18th, Sport Witness relayed news of the Blues tracking the 19-year-old for over a year.

Last month, we covered claims from Argentina about Tottenham accelerating efforts to sign the winger.

The Argentina U20 international is a product of River Plate’s youth system and made his first team debut in 2024.

However, the winger only started to feature regularly this year as he played 886 minutes from 20 matches, managing a goal and two assists.

Although the statistics aren’t that impressive, he has already caught the attention of top European clubs.

Tottenham and Chelsea keen

Soy del Millo report the Argentine club’s coach staff intend to hold on to Ian Subiabre.

At the same time, his sale for a desired price can help them meet their desired financial objectives. This is also needed to improve their squad.

Several European clubs are watching him closely and among these, Tottenham, Chelsea, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have ‘expressed formal interest’. Meanwhile, Villarreal and Lazio have joined the chase.

Subiabre’s agent Claudio Caniggia wants to capitalise on their interest to secure a move to Europe.

Another report from Soy del Millo shares more on this case, after sharing journalist Hernán Castillo’s latest update.

According to Castillo, the agent is pushing for his client’s sale as soon as possible. River Plate have given then green light, provided there’s an offer that convinces them.

In the past few hours, the South American club turned down an $8m (€6.8m) bid and now demand $10-15m (€8.5-12.7m).

The outlet states: ‘Subiabre is undoubtedly one of the most interesting prospects to emerge from the club in recent years: a skilful and unpredictable winger, with a profile highly sought after by European clubs.’

Therefore, River Plate are expecting ‘important offers’ from Tottenham, Chelsea and Villarreal.

Deal affordable for Spurs and Blues

The Premier League duo shouldn’t have much trouble meeting the Argentine club’s asking price of €8.5-12.7m.

However, there’s nothing to indicate if either of them are willing to meet their demand.

It’s also possible Ian Subiabre’s agent could be using Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to create hype or put pressure on another genuine contender.

The youngster’s contract lasts until December 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €3.5m.
