‘Nothing’ in Xavi to Chelsea rumours

For Chelsea fans who are hoping to see Xavi in the Stamford Bridge dugout next season, they are likely to be left disappointed.

Law has poured cold water on the rumours on the London Is Blue Podcast, claiming there is “nothing” in them.

On the Xavi to Chelsea links, the journalist said: “Xavi Hernandez, I think it came out yesterday and then got shot down very quickly. I’m told there’s nothing in that. And we wait to see if anyone else strongly emerges really.”

While Xavi may not be in contention for the Chelsea job, there are quite a few other Spanish managers who are.

Andoni Iraola, Cesc Fabregas and Xabi Alonso are all thought to be under consideration at Stamford Bridge. In fact, one journalist has even claimed that Alonso joining Chelsea is inevitable.

The Liverpool legend has been without a job since being sacked by Real Madrid in January so is available.

Chelsea should be considering Xavi

Chelsea should not be quick to dismiss Xavi. He ticks a lot of boxes, the ones that Rosenior did not.

At Barcelona, Xavi managed a dressing room with big personalities, while he was also able to lead the Catalan club to a La Liga title during his time there.

He would bring a brand of football that will appeal to Chelsea’s owners, and the players will also respect him after the playing career he had.

Glen Johnson thinks Chelsea’s players would also respect Fabregas, with Xavi’s former Barcelona and Spain teammate also having a successful career as a footballer.

For whatever reason, though, Xavi’s name does not appear to be near the top of the Blues’ shortlist. Right now, someone like Iraola looks more likely. As things stand, the Bournemouth boss and Alonso seem to be the favourites for the job.
