“That’s My Understanding ” – Romano Reveals Whether Chelsea Have Contacted Title Winning Manager

Chelsea have not been in touch with former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 46-year-old won the La Liga title in 2023, but he has been out of work for nearly two years, and there were suggestions that he would be considered for the vacant post at Stamford Bridge. However, Romano said he is not currently in the running for the job:
“There is nothing ongoing between Chelsea and Xavi Hernandez. That’s my understanding as of today. If tomorrow morning they decide to meet. I will let you know. But as of today, beginning of May, zero contacts between Xavi and Chelsea.”
“Chelsea continued their process to find a new manager. The feeling at the club is that they are still at early stages, talking to candidates, representatives of candidates, and preparing the final list. But still nothing advanced, still nothing decided.”
Xavi’s record at Barcelona
The Catalan was appointed during a tumultuous period at the club. Barca were not in great shape financially, and results on the pitch were not much better.
However, just 18 months after his appointment in November 2021, Xavi had guided the team to the La Liga title. At the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign, he would also lift the Spanish Super Cup.
That was as good as things got, though, as he was relieved of his duties in May 2024, after finishing 2nd behind Real Madrid in the league table.

Which managers are Chelsea talking to?
It is believed that the Blues’ leadership team have had discussions with Xabi Alonso, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham coach Marco Silva.
Reports suggest that talks with Alonso have progressed the furthest, although there are still doubts over whether the 44-year-old can be convinced to take the role.
