Danny Murphy Names The “Brilliant” Newcastle Star That Liverpool Should Sign
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy thinks the Reds should consider making a move for Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall.
The Merseysiders are likely to recruit a replacement for the departing Andy Robertson, and speaking to Betarades.gr, Murphy said Hall would be his pick, if the Magpies were willing to sanction his sale:
“To be honest, depending on what happens with the Newcastle situation, I’m a huge fan of Lewis Hall. I think he’s a wonderful player, a brilliant footballer, and when it comes to one-on-one defending, he’s very, very good. It’s probably unlikely you’re gonna get him out because it it looks like Tonali might go and Gordon might go, but if Newcastle do have to sell and you can pinch him, even if you have to pay a bit more for him, he’s still a young man, he’s got the Premier League experience, and I think he’s been one of Newcastle’s shining lights this season.”
“There’s a lot of great left backs out there not worth mentioning because I don’t think you’d tear them away from PSG, Bayern Munich, and they’re at some of the biggest clubs in the world, and you’d like to be able to grab them and take them, but I’m not sure.”
Hall would cost a lot of money
Newcastle signed the defender on a permanent basis from Chelsea for £35m in the summer of 2024, and considering how negotiations for Alexander Isak got pretty ugly, you can’t see the Magpies being accommodating when it comes to his price tag this summer.
Liverpool spent £40m to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer, so it doesn’t seem that plausible that sporting director Richard Hughes would be prepared to spend even more than that on Hall when other positions, especially in the forward line, are in greater need of strengthening.
Who could Liverpool sign instead to replace Robertson?
RB Leipzig captain David Raum is one player who has been mentioned as a potential target. The 28-year-old is closing in on the final year of his contract, so he would be considerably cheaper than Hall.
Ironically, both players have also been linked with Manchester United, so there could be competition from the Red Devils no matter which one they choose to pursue.
