Cole Palmer looks set to continue at Chelsea despite being heavily linked with a move away in the summer.

The 24-year-old was the Blues’ standout star last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 14 assists in 52 games in all competitions. This campaign has been a totally different story, though.

Forced to miss over 20 matches due to injury, the England international has failed to reach anywhere near the same levels.

Seemingly unsettled — not helped by multiple managers coming and going — Palmer emerged as an audacious target for his boyhood club, Manchester United.

Despite appreciating the creative midfielder, the Red Devils don’t look likely to seriously pursue a deal in the summer.

Signing Palmer, especially as a rival club, would never be easy. The midfielder is tied to a contract until 2033 as well.

Not only that, but Manchester United are well stocked in their attacking positions. Bruno Fernandes is their talisman and will remain their focal point next season.

There was also big investment made last summer in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo — neither of which will leave Old Trafford after just their first season.

Combining this with Palmer’s disappointing output this term the Red Devils have decided he is not part of their plans.

The Express have reported the 20-time league winners will instead focus their attention elsewhere, which includes finding a replacement for Casemiro and a new centre-back, and if funds allow it, a new left-back.

Chelsea’s valuation proves they’re open to selling Palmer

Any club considering an approach for the City academy graduate would need to be prepared to spend a hefty amount.

The same outlet believe the Blues would demand at least £90 million for their number 10. A fee that would represent significant profit following his £40 million move from Manchester City three years ago.

Although Manchester United won’t be meeting that valuation, the fact Chelsea are open to the possibility suggests there is a willingness to negotiate.

Despite this, there is no doubting that Palmer will remain a key player but the onus will be on the next manager to get the very best out of him.

The Blues cannot afford to carry any more passengers, and unfortunately, that’s exactly what Palmer has been this year.

Nevertheless, with the 2026 World Cup now just a matter of weeks away, Chelsea’s number 10 will have the chance to re-establish himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents, and doing so on the biggest stage of all.
