“There Was A Meeting With Chelsea”
Agents of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon had a “meeting with Chelsea”, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern InsiderFalk suggested that the Blues could pose the biggest threat to Bayern Munich’s chances of signing the England international, as they could engineer a player exchange involving Nicolas Jackson:
“There was a meeting with Chelsea, contact with Liverpool, contact with Arsenal… they’re allowed to do that, as they know Newcastle need the money this summer to keep on the right side of Financial Fair Play. Barcelona were offered the player, but they can’t afford the kind of transfer fee we’ve been talking about.”
“Bayern, on the other hand, could pay this if they wish to. So it’s getting interesting to see who’s joining the poker table. I’m personally more afraid of Chelsea, as they have the resources to make a deal happen. Not to mention, they could use Nicolas Jackson as a makeweight in a potential swap deal (and we know Newcastle are interested in the Senegal international).”
Newcastle have set a sizeable asking price
The Magpies are requesting that clubs pay £80m for Gordon. Bayern are said to be reluctant to pay that much, and it seems Chelsea may have a solution to reduce the cost of the deal.
Jackson is not the only player that the Blues could propose as part of their offer. Liam Delap is also a target for Eddie Howe’s team.
Why would Chelsea want Gordon?
The Newcastle star is at his most effective on the left wing, which is a problem position for the London club. Jamie Gittens has proven to be an awful signing so far. He struggled with form in the first half of the campaign, and he has been out injured since January.
In terms of Alejandro Garnacho, there are already suggestions that the Blues are willing to part ways with the Argentinian international less than a year after purchasing him from Manchester United for £40m.
