There are fears Chelsea are going to have to part ways with one of their key players this summer after missing out on Champions League football, and Atletico Madrid are ready to pounce.

Chelsea fell away from the race for the top five due to a run of six Premier League defeats on the bounce, with Liam Rosenior sacked during that period of time.

Many have tipped Enzo Fernandez to depart at the end of the season. He has made it clear how much admiration he has for Real Madrid.

Their city rivals are also sniffing around the first team squad, and have registered an interest in signing Marc Cucurella.

According to AS, Diego Simeone’s side see the Chelsea left-back as the favoured option to join the club and bolster the defence.

The report goes on to say that the two clubs have already been in contact with each other over a potential move.

Cucurella’s form has taken a drastic turn since Enzo Maresca’s sacking, and he is no longer the untouchable force that he once was in the Chelsea side.

Similarly to Fernandez, the left-back has made it clear that he has admiration for another club, stating he favours Barcelona after his time growing up in their academy.

Are there any changes you would make to the Chelsea XI?

Chelsea at crossroads with Cucurella

Cucurella finds himself in the unique situation of being one of the club’s most experienced players in the Chelsea first team squad.

However, his contract expires in two years’ time, leaving the club with a difficult situation when it comes to his future.

Offering him a big contract at his age would be unheard of by BlueCo, even though he did sign some sort of new deal in secret this season.

The last few games of the season could be used to see how close Jorrel Hato is from being able to be a regular in the starting XI, ultimately forcing out the Spaniard.
