Nuno highlights a very positive West Ham vs Arsenal omen

So it is fitting, perhaps, that Nuno Espirito Santo would spend much of his pre-Arsenal press conference talking about the need for West Ham United to bounce back from what was a damaging, demoralising defeat at Brentford last time out.

Nuno is preparing for the visit of Arsenal on a weekend which will go a long way to deciding both the title race and the relegation battle.

“It was a tough weekend for all of us (last time out). A bad result,” says Nuno, whose side were leapfrogged by Tottenham Hotspur following an impressive 2-1 win at Villa Park for Roberto de Zerbi’s outfit.

“The first half was positive (against Brentford). We performed well and had our moments, but overall it was a bad weekend. We have to react and bounce back.

“We’ve always been able to react, during the games and during the season. It was a poor result, but the next one comes and we must manage to get a better result.

“We’ve proven that, here at West Ham, nobody gives up. Let’s go.”

The Hammers haven’t lost successive games for four months

A look back at their results over the last few months does provide some evidence to support Nuno’s argument.

The Hammers have lost only four of their last 13 Premier League matches. Furthermore, they have responded to the last three losses by winning the very next game.

One week after Chelsea came from 2-0 down at Stamford Bridge, West Ham travelled to Turf Moor and beat Burnley 2-0. Crysencio Summerville scored the winner away to Fulham days after Liverpool put five past Mads Hermansen at Anfield.

West Ham produced arguably their best performance of the entire campaign when obliterating Wolves 4-0 in their first outing since a drab 2-0 loss at Villa Park.

The Londoners have only lost successive league matches once in 2026. And those came against Wolves and Nottingham Forest in the first week of January.

On the other hand, when they do lose, they often lose pretty badly. West Ham have lost seven matches by three or more goals in 2025/26. If Arsenal were to rack up a 3-0 success on the road this weekend, that would see the Hammers equal a very unwanted feat achieved by Avram Grant’s rock-bottom outfit in 2010/11.
