We picked up three points and another clean sheet in our 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, something which delighted our goalkeeper, Anneke Borbe.

Last summer’s signing has 11 clean sheets in 16 appearances in her maiden campaign, notching up her latest with a composed performance at Villa Park.

When asked about her latest shutout, she said: “It’s great defending. You can see today, I barely touched the ball with my hands, so it’s just the whole team. It starts up front, we really pride ourselves on our defending, and I think we did that really well today.

“I think it was just a great game from us – a really professional performance. We brought our game here, played really well and scored three goals, so we’re really happy about that.”

The games have come thick and fast in recent weeks but that didn’t stop our Gunners from starting fast, with Alessia Russo and Frida Maanum netting in the first half.

She said: “Really good first half. I think we did a good job with recovery after the last game. We just wanted to show another face today, and I think we did that really well.

“We know that we have to perform in the last games. We want to secure the second spot. I think we’re professional enough to just bring our performance on the pitch and not really think about our tired legs or something.”

Our supporters packed out the away end in Villa Park, just days after doing the same at Brighton.

“It’s just great,” Borbe said. “I think I never experienced that at another club, having so many supporters at home games as well as away games. It’s always great to have them in the back.”
