Chelsea boss Calum McFarlane has made five changes to his starting XI to face Liverpool, including handing Levi Colwill his first start of the season.

The centre-back has been out of action for eight months after suffering a serious knee ligament injury in pre-season.

Colwill made his first of appearance of the campaign on Monday when he came off the bench at halftime of their 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Robert Sanchez and Jesse Derry are both ruled out after suffering head injuries against Forest. Filip Jorgensen starts in net and the Blues have switched to a back five.

Jorrel Hato slots into the backline after not featuring in either of the last two matches. He and Wesley Fofana replace Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo. Midfielder Romeo Lavia drops to the bench in favour of Andrey Santos.

Academy players Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Mathis Eboue come into the matchday squad.
