Robert Sanchez not far from Alisson in clean sheet list since 2023/24 season
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has received a lot of criticism this season.
Sanchez has made some high-profile mistakes between the posts and is now at risk of being replaced as No.1 next term.
It has been reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Robin Roefs, who has had a solid season at Sunderland.
However, statistically, you can argue that Sanchez is actually one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is only two clean sheets behind Alisson since 2023/24 season
For all of the criticism that Sanchez has received since joining Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion, the 28-year-old actually has one of the best clean sheet records in the Premier League.
According to Squawka, since the start of the 2023/24 season, Sanchez has kept 22 clean sheets. To put that into perspective, Liverpool’s Alisson, who is widely considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, has recorded just two more in the same time.
Chelsea aren’t going to find a better goalkeeper on the market than Robert Sanchez…
Should have signed Mike Maignan when we had the chance!
What is really interesting is the fact that both shot-stoppers have played exactly the same number of Premier League games: 81.
There is no doubt that Alisson has also been playing behind a much stronger defence, one that possesses the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

When you consider that, Sanchez has done well to keep up with Alisson and be in the top 10 despite all of Chelsea’s defensive frailties.
Of course, Sanchez himself has contributed at times to those frailties. But the Blues could easily regret replacing him this summer if they do not choose the right goalkeeper. And right now, you would not bet on the club to do that after some of the horrible decisions they have made over the past year.
Manchester City’s James Trafford is another goalkeeper being linked to Chelsea. He should be available in the upcoming transfer window after being relegated to No.2, but whether or not he is a better goalie than Sanchez can be debated.
