If Enzo Fernandez had not proven his importance to Chelsea Football Club over the past couple of weeks since his two-game ban, then Wesley Fofana has made it clear to the club’s owners, BlueCo.

In only his second game after being handed a two-game ban for his comments about Real Madrid during the international break, Fernandez headed home the only goal that has given Chelsea fans some hope.

Indeed, his header against Leeds sent Chelsea to the FA Cup final, the last bit of optimism that Chelsea supporters have after what has been a disaster of a campaign. Then, he scored on Saturday afternoon.

Wesley Fofana might claim it was his goal and that he pretended it wasn’t so the officials wouldn’t give an offside, but it was Fernandez’s genius that saw the ball find the back of the net against Liverpool.

Wesley Fofana’s message to BlueCo is clear: Keep Enzo Fernandez

There has never been any doubt that Fernandez is one of Chelsea’s best players. He is the heartbeat of anything good Chelsea does, and that has been proven in the last few weeks, aside from the poor results.

If Chelsea are going to get themselves out of this mess, they need to keep Fernandez. Any approach from Real Madrid needs to be rebuffed, and Fofana has made that clear in an interview on Chelsea’s website.

“It seems like he can always do that; he’s got a really good free kick. It was a good shot, but he has the ability to put the ball wherever he wants. We are happy to have a good player like this in the team.”

What are Chelsea planning to do to keep Enzo Fernandez?

As things stand, Chelsea are in a solid position when it comes to Fernandez’s future. The Argentine has a contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2032 and don’t actually need to do anything to keep him.

Reports as recent as this week state that Chelsea are planning to offer Fernandez a new contract, which is likely to include a pay rise and extend his stay at Stamford Bridge until either June 2033 or 2034.

But if Chelsea fail to qualify for Europe, they may have to sell a player or two to balance the books. That may include Fernandez, who continues to attract attention following his comments about Real Madrid.

Man City have been linked with the midfielder more recently, with Chelsea requesting a ÂŁ100m fee for his services. But it seems BlueCo are one step ahead of Fofana, and would prefer to keep Fernandez.
