Chelsea are already making a signing that will be ideal for Xabi Alonso’s style of play
Chelsea have disappointed this season, but Xabi Alonso will still have a very good squad of players to work with if he becomes the club’s new manager.
Even if Chelsea fail to qualify for European football, it is thought that Alonso would still be open to managing at Stamford Bridge.
While the transfer window is not open yet, the Blues have already secured the signings of Emanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda to strengthen their squad.
Xabi Alonso or Cesc Fabregas… Who are you taking?👀
Geovany Quenda could be ideal for Xabi Alonso at Chelsea
Quenda could prove to be a very useful asset to Alonso if the Spaniard uses his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation in west London.
The 19-year-old played as a wing-back under former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting and thrived in the role.
That is hardly a surprise, as he has the attributes to at least master the attacking element of the role. Quenda is quick, direct and can dribble.
In games where Chelsea are facing low blocks, Quenda in the right wing-back position and Cole Palmer playing in the right half-space could cause a lot of problems.

Of course, it all depends on whether Chelsea appoint Alonso and if he wants to use a back five. At Real Madrid, the Liverpool legend employed a back four, so he is not wedded to one system.
But if Alonso does get the Chelsea job and decides he wants to use wing-backs, Quenda could be perfect.
Quenda’s best position is further forward, while he can also play on the opposite flank, so there are quite a few things the next Chelsea manager can do with him.
Alejandro Garnacho has not been able to nail down the spot on the left wing this season, while Jamie Gittens has missed a lot of games because of injuries. It gives Quenda a shot at becoming the team’s first-choice left winger next term.
His development will no doubt be something to keep an eye on in the 2026/27 campaign.
