Midfield is set to be one area of Chelsea’s squad that will be strengthened this summer.

Romeo Lavia’s injury record has been an issue since the Belgian arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2023, while Enzo Fernandez’s future remains uncertain.

Whatever happens, it looks like Chelsea will dip into the transfer market for a new midfielder.

Good player, but we’re taking Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton over him 🤷‍♂️

Chelsea analysts appreciate Alex Scott’s ability to carry the ball

One midfielder who is currently on the Blues’ radar is Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. Last month, it was claimed that Scott has been on Chelsea’s shortlist for a while.

According to TEAMtalk, one thing that has caught Chelsea analysts’ attention is Scott’s ability to carry the ball through the middle.

The same outlet says Chelsea feel that the 22-year-old ticks most boxes, while it has been suggested that he could cost £50m.

However, amid interest from other clubs, Chelsea could struggle to land Scott ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Unlike Manchester United, another side who are thought to be keen on the Englishman, Chelsea cannot offer Champions League football.

Alex Scott’s dribbling numbers this season

Scott is definitely one of the better ball carriers in his position. As per FotMob, he completes 0.91 dribbles per 90 minutes, putting him in the 87th percentile among midfielders.

He has a success rate of 54.9%, which is not the worst compared to other midfielders either.

All in all, Scott could be a decent addition to this Chelsea squad. Unlike a lot of the club’s recent signings, the Bournemouth man has Premier League experience.

However, he is still only 22 years of age and has not won a major trophy in his career. Simply put, Scott is not going to be the kind of signing that transforms Chelsea.

His profile is very different to Fernandez as well, so he could not be a like-for-like replacement for the Argentine. Nevertheless, Chelsea still seem to be keen on him.
