West Ham survival hopes boosted as Spurs are hit by new double injury blow

While Spurs were still 0-0 at Molineux, Tomas Soucek put West Ham in front with a superb header from a corner.

There were ripples around the London Stadium when news came through of Tottenham’s 82nd minute goal from former West Ham target Joao Palhinha.

The Stratford arena then fell into a deathly silence as Everton equalised just minutes later, putting West Ham back in the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

And the Toffees were threatening to make things even worse by pushing for a winner. However, it would be the Hammers who got it as Wilson scored in the 92nd minute to deafening celebrations from the home crowd.

Ultimately, West Ham’s win was all the more crucial given Tottenham picked up all three points.

Not least because it keeps survival in West Ham’s own hands with four games to go.

Tottenham were somewhat fortunate to secure the win over already relegated Wolves.

But the real story was the big name stars who could now miss key games for Tottenham after Roberto De Zerbi was rocked by a double injury blow.

Striker Dominic Solanke and key playmaker Xavi Simons both went off with serious-looking injuries.

Solanke went off with a hamstring strain while Simons suffered a knee injury.

The Dutchman went down after a challenge with Hugo Bueno and was in visible pain, remaining on the turf while receiving treatment.

He tried to play on but then collapsed in agony and medical staff called for a stretcher to take him off.

Numerous football sites are reporting it is unlikely Simons, who left the field in tears, will feature again this season.

Meanwhile Solanke, who has a history of hamstring injuries, is also reportedly now doubtful for the remaining matches.

Tottenham have suffered with injuries all season and lost captain Cuti Romero for the rest of the season recently while former Hammer Mohammed Kudus suffered a setback which ended his campaign too.

Destiny Udogie has also picked up an injury to add to De Zerbi’s woes.

Meanwhile, West Ham appeared to escape unscathed from their win over Everton.

The Hammers have a trip to Brentford next Saturday while Tottenham have to go to Champions League chasing Aston Villa without both Simons and Solanke.

It is most definitely advantage West Ham in the relegation dogfight as the issues mount in north London.
