“I think he’s a great player”

Former Premier League striker Jay Bothroyd believes player linked with a move to Chelsea would be a perfect fit for Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has been linked with a move away from the West Midlands club in the summer. Multiple clubs, including Mikel Arteta’s side, Chelsea, and Manchester United, are reportedly keen on signing him. The England midfielder has scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists in 37 appearances in the league for the Villans this season.

Bothroyd was asked which team would suit Rogers best if he were to leave Aston Villa in the summer. The former striker said (via Metro):

“He walks into Arsenal’s team. He plays week in, week out on the left-hand side. We (Arsenal) need a player who can play on the left-hand side; he’s got that in abundance.

‘He can do it (play on the left wing), we don’t want another (Gabriel) Martinelli, trust me. I feel like with (Eberechi) Eze, he’s probably Arsenal’s No.10. I would like to see Morgan Rogers playing there and tucking inside. I think he’s a great player.”

He then explained who Rogers wouldn’t be a good fit at Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United:

“When you mention Bayern Munich, I don’t think Bayern Munich is the one. You’ve got Luis Diaz there, he’s playing unbelievably well, then you’ve got (Jamal) Musiala who is coming back, Lennart Karl, who is a fantastic young player, then obviously (Michael) Olise. I don’t think Rogers would fit into that if he wants to play week in, week out. PSG are a similar thing, they’ve got some great attacking players.

“I think the one that stands out is Arsenal. Even Manchester United, maybe, but I feel they’ve got (Matheus) Cunha, (Bryan) Mbeumo, (Bruno) Fernandes will probably play as a No.10 next season higher up when they sign their midfielders.

‘I feel like Arsenal is the one where he can say, ‘I’m going there and I’m going to play week in, week out’.”

Gunners are keen on signing Julian Alvarez in the summer window. The player is expected to cost at least €150 million in the summer. Recent reports suggest Mikel Arteta plans to deploy Alvarez from the left wing if the Gunners manage to sign him, as they are planning to potentially sell Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.

The North London side are set to play Burnley at home before their final game of the season away from home against Crystal Palace. A win against both teams would help them seal the Premier League title, their first in 22-years.
