Former Premier League winner Chris Sutton has predicted West Ham’s trip to Newcastle on Sunday evening.

It’s the biggest game of the season so far for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who will overtake Tottenham with a victory.

Many believe the Hammers will avoid relegation if they beat Newcastle, as Spurs face rivals Chelsea on Tuesday.

However, Sutton expects West Ham to suffer more disappointment, even though they will be “absolutely desperate.”

Between 1-10, how would you rate West Ham’s survival chances if they beat Newcastle? 😬

Chris Sutton predicts Newcastle vs West Ham draw

Sutton initially explained that he did not “feel sorry” for West Ham following their disallowed equaliser against Arsenal.

The ex-Blackburn and Chelsea striker thought Pablo Felipe clearly fouled David Raya, so the VAR made the right decision.

“I don’t feel sorry for West Ham after their defeat by Arsenal last week,” Sutton wrote in his BBC Sport column.

“It was a foul on Gunners goalkeeper David Raya for their goal, which was disallowed, and the fact they are in the relegation zone is because of the way they have played all season.”

As for the Newcastle game, Sutton is not convinced West Ham will deliver a match-winning performance despite their desperation.

He has predicted a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park, which would not significantly help the Hammers in the relegation battle.

Sutton continued: “Now this is an enormous game for the Hammers, and it is an absolutely ‘must-win’ for them.

“Newcastle were very poor when they lost at London Stadium in November, and you wouldn’t say they are in much better form at the moment.

“Magpies boss Eddie Howe realises the importance of finishing the season strongly for his own future, and I don’t see his side losing this.

“West Ham will be absolutely desperate to get the win, but I am going for a draw and, if anyone does win it, it will be Newcastle. Sutton’s prediction: 1-1.”

A draw away to Newcastle would normally be a good result, but it would be a major problem this weekend.

It would mean that Tottenham have the chance to confirm their survival at Stamford Bridge in a few days.

West Ham have no choice but to beat Eddie Howe’s team and ensure that the relegation fight goes to the final day.
