Chelsea Consider ‘Ambitious Move’ To Re-Sign Player They Sold For £35M Less Than 2 Years Ago

Chelsea are weighing up whether to bring Lewis Hall back to Stamford Bridge, according to reports.
Writing in an exclusive on his Substack, journalist Simon Phillips says an “ambitious move” for the Newcastle United defender is under consideration.
Hall was initially loaned out by the Blues to the Magpies in the summer of 2023, but the deal included an obligation to buy the following summer, which was worth up to £35m (including add-ons).
Over the last couple of years at St James’ Park, he has blossomed into one of England’s best left-backs.
Cucurella’s future at Chelsea is in doubt
The interest in Hall appears to be related to question marks over Marc Cucurella’s contract extension. The Spanish international has two years remaining on his current deal, but the Blues would like to tie him down for longer.
At the moment, there has been no breakthrough in talks, and his remarks during the last international break, where he hinted that he would be open to returning to Barcelona, may indicate he is on his way out of the club this summer.
Reports in the Spanish media suggest that Cucurella could be on the market for around €50m (£43m), with Barca keen on recruiting the fullback and his teammate Joao Pedro.

Hall has other suitors
Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to be keen on the England international, but Newcastle won’t allow the player to leave on the cheap.
It has been claimed that Eddie Howe’s side could demand double what they paid for the player, with an asking price of around £70m.
That would make him a more expensive purchase than Cucurella, who made the move to Stamford Bridge from Brighton for £62m before the start of the 2022/23 season.
