The brother of Bayern Munich and French national team winger Michael Olise is without a club

The brother of Bayern Munich and France star Michael Olise is currently without a club after being released by Chelsea. Richard Olise, 21, joined the Blues’ academy at under-9 level.

The defender advanced through the ranks, even making Chelsea’s squad for their Conference League trip to Astana in the 2024/25 season. Michael also spent time at Chelsea between 2009 and 2016 before leaving for a brief spell with Manchester City.

Richard’s fortunes have differed vastly from his brother’s, who has emerged as one of the best players in the World. Michael, 24, moved to Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace in 2024 and has torn up the Bundesliga ever since.

His performances in this summer’s World Cup for France have been equally impressive. Olise has five assists for Les Bleus as they gear up to face Morocco in the quarter-finals on Thursday, July 9.

With Richard now a free agent, Michael has imparted some pearls of wisdom to his younger brother as he bids to get his footballing career back on track.

“We never talk about football to be honest,” Michael told German X account MiaSanMIia. “We are both in it so much. We talk about life. When you have a setback, take it as a lesson.

“Use it as time to grow. Someone always has something worse than what you are experiencing. There is no time to complain. Digest what happened, then move on.”

Michael’s performances for Bayern and France have led to him being linked with a number of top clubs across Europe. Olise has 42 goals and 54 assists in 107 appearances for the German giants.

Real Madrid are said to be interested in bringing the talented winger to Spain. Club president Florentino Perez claimed he was going to make a £130million for one of Europe’s top players.

While Olise was speculated to be the target, Madrid released a statement claiming they have had no contact with the player or his representatives.

“In response to reports in various media outlets regarding an alleged interest from our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid CF wishes to state that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned player, his representatives, or anyone in his entourage.

“Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich, with whom it shares a long history of mutual respect, collaboration and admiration, and regrets the spread of speculation that does not correspond to reality.”

Olise remains under contract with Bayern until the summer of 2029. It has recently been reported that the German club is keen to offer him a new contract. CEO Max Eberl underlined the club’s stance in April that he was not even entertaining the prospect of Olise leaving the Allianz Arena.
