Chelsea officially announce permanent transfer for England defender – Read Chelsea F.C.
Chelsea have confirmed that defender Brooke Aspin has completed a permanent transfer to Bristol City.
The centre-back returns to the club where she began her career after three years on Chelsea’s books.
Aspin progressed through Bristol City’s academy and made her senior debut at 16 before joining Chelsea shortly after her 18th birthday in 2023.
She immediately returned to the Robins on loan and made 20 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign, playing 90 per cent of the available minutes.
Chelsea’s original announcement confirmed that Aspin signed a four-year contract before returning to Bristol City for their Women’s Super League campaign.
Aspin returns after lengthy injury recovery
Aspin represented England at the 2024 Under-19 European Championship and captained the Young Lionesses twice during their run to the semi-finals.
She then joined Crystal Palace on loan for the following season, making six appearances across all competitions.
However, that spell ended early after Aspin suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while representing England Under-23s in November 2024.
Chelsea recalled her from Palace in January 2025 to continue her rehabilitation at Cobham. The club confirmed at the time that four of her six Palace appearances had come in the WSL.
Now back to fitness, Aspin will return to familiar surroundings in Bristol and compete for regular first-team football.
Her departure comes during another busy period for Chelsea Women. As Read Chelsea reported, the club have also changed direction in their attacking recruitment by prioritising Manchester United forward Melvine Malard.
Aspin leaves Chelsea without making a senior competitive appearance, but she remains an experienced young defender with significant WSL and England youth exposure.
The permanent move gives the 21-year-old an opportunity to rebuild her momentum at the club where her professional career began.
