There are mounting frustrations from Chelsea fans after pictures emerged of Liam Delap sporting noticeable protective strapping on the training pitch.

After joining Chelsea for £30 million in June 2025, Liam Delap endured a really difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge. Moving from Ipswich Town, where he’d just bagged 12 Premier League goals, expectations were incredibly high. However, the striker struggled to find his footing in London.

He made 41 appearances across all competitions, but mostly as a substitute, and managed just two goals, including a lone league strike against Fulham in January.

While he showed flashes of his talent, it was a frustrating, quiet year for the young forward.

Liam Delap wears knee strapping in Chelsea training

Chelsea released training images on their website and the one thing that supporters spotted was the fact that Liam Delap’s knee is still strapped.

However, after an up-and-down season, it did raise some concerns.

One fan said: “Well, he ain’t being sold then likely wont pass a medical.”

“He is training in it so I don’t think it’s an issue. Probably more preventive,” this fan was hopeful.

Another was worried it would spoil a potential exit: “Hope it’s not an injury that can affect his medicals.”

“Dude already showing y’all, even if they agree any deal, he gonna fail medicals,” another said this.

Liam Delap’s injury history with his knees

Seeing Liam Delap sporting heavy knee strapping in training has definitely raised some eyebrows, and for good reason.

The striker has a bit of a history when it comes to knee trouble. Back in early 2024 during his loan spell at Hull City, he suffered a serious knee injury that kept him out of action for three grueling months.

While he’s managed to stay relatively fit since, those past struggles explain why Chelsea fans get nervous seeing him with protective wraps.
