Luton Town – Chance Encounters (1) « Vital Football
Out for a drink, one night, I had a chance encounter.
Accompanied by my wife, several years ago, we were visiting several haunts, in the town centre, before ending up in the Wheelwrights Arms.
Meeting up with a few cohorts, some supporting Chelsea, some West Ham and one, strangely, Queens Park Rangers, the drinks were soon flowing and, as a group, we put the world to rights.
Now, those of you who have frequented the referenced establishment will know it is small, probably not much bigger than my front room.
Therefore, what was to happen next was even more surprising.
With my hollow legs now full of ale, I needed to visit the toilet.
Making my excuses, I was soon approaching the marble shrine, doing my utmost to keep myself to myself, as us blokes do.
However, I was aware of someone standing close to me and soon, West Ham supporting Keith bowled through the door and from that that very moment I knew exactly who I was stood next to.
Loud and brash, and doing his best Brian Clough impression, Keith remarked:
“Now then young man what are you doing out on the lash on a Saturday night in Luton?”
Almost instantly, I realised I was stood next to Kingsley Black, the former Luton Town player who was now on the books of Nottingham Forest.
Trying not to laugh at Keith’s impression, myself and Kingsley exited the toilet facility.
As I walked out of the door, my wife looked up and her jaw dropped to the floor in astonishment.
To say she idolised / fancied Kingsley was an understatement, and she couldn’t get over the fact he had been sat in the pub, and she hadn’t even noticed him.
Chance encounters, don’t you just love them.
