Roma make contact with Chelsea over defender Axel Disasi
According to Foot Marketthe Serie A club have approached Chelsea over the 28-year-old and have also been in touch with his representatives. Chelsea are said to be asking for around €20million to sanction the sale of a player who spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United.
Disasi impressed during his loan spell in east London, helping shore up a West Ham United defence that ultimately could not avoid relegation from the Premier League. That renaissance under Nuno Espirito Santo has done little to change Chelsea’s thinking, however, with the club still keen to move the defender on permanently as they continue trimming their squad under Xabi Alonso.
With Chelsea’s valuation now known, the ball is firmly in AS Roma’s court, and the Italian side are aware they will need to move quickly if they want to secure the Frenchman’s signature before other interested parties emerge. Roma finished third in Serie A last season and will play Champions League football again this term, a factor that could prove decisive in persuading Disasi that a move to the Italian capital represents the right next step in his career.
Disasi joined Chelsea from Monaco in 2023 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, with loan spells away from the club, including a previous stint at Aston Villa, doing more for his development than his time in west London. A permanent exit now looks the most likely outcome, with Roma appearing well placed to take advantage of Chelsea’s willingness to sell.
The defender remains under contract with Chelsea until 2029, meaning the club is under no pressure to accept anything below its valuation, even with interest from a club playing continental football.
For Roma, adding a physically imposing, experienced centre-back at a relatively modest fee would represent shrewd business as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of a demanding campaign that includes both domestic and European commitments.
