He simply is not moving anywhere.

That is the clear story coming out of Madrid right now, and it matches up with the chaotic atmosphere around the Bernabéu this summer. New Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho had actually given the green light for the player to leave. The Spanish giants value the midfielder at around €50m to €60m after his market value dropped across a rough 2025/26 season. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City all kept tabs on the situation, hoping to strike a deal.
The 2025/26 campaign went off the rails early for Camavinga. Injuries turned the year into a nightmare. An ankle injury sidelined him in August 2025, followed by a muscle problem in January and a troublesome groin issue in April. Those constant spells in the treatment room ruined any chance of finding a proper rhythm.
When he did feature, the output fell short of expectations. In LaLiga, he managed just 21 appearances, scoring once and providing zero assists. It was a stark contrast to the teenager who arrived from Stade Rennais for €31m in 2021, looking like a generational talent meant to rule Madrid’s midfield for a decade. Still, his contract runs until June 2029, giving the club total control over his market future.
Why Xabi Alonso wants him anyway
From Stamford Bridge, the target made total sense. Blues boss Xabi Alonso wants genuine quality in the middle of the pitch. When fit and firing, Camavinga brings a raw mix of physical power, aggressive pressing, and precise technical skill. At 23, the potential is still massive. Taking a punt on a reduced fee made plenty of financial sense for Chelsea, provided they were willing to take on his medical history.
The trouble is the player is completely disinterested in making the jump. Marca made that point loud and clear. Camavinga continues to reject every single proposal because he wants to stay in Madrid, regardless of who makes an offer. That creates an impossible problem for recruiters. No matter how much money a team flings around, you cannot force a player to pack his bags when he has four years left on his contract and zero desire to leave.

Chelsea need to accept the reality and cut their losses here. Players in this mood occasionally alter their stance if Mourinho leaves them rotting on the bench once the season gets underway. But spending weeks chasing someone who actively rejects your project rarely works out. Chelsea have burned far too much time on reluctant targets recently. This door is locked shut.
