Aston Villa are working hard to sign Alejandro Garnacho. The winger sits right at the center of this summer’s Chelsea transfer news, and talks between the two clubs have already moved into a serious stage.
Villa and Chelsea move closer on loan terms
The current plan is a season-long loan, with a clause that could force Villa to buy Alejandro Garnacho once the year ends. As reported by BBC, Chelsea are willing to sell him for close to £43 million this summer, only slightly above the £40 million they paid Manchester United for him last year. That price reflects how little his stock has moved despite a full season in the Premier League.
For Villa, a loan first is the lower-risk option, a chance to see whether Garnacho can rediscover his best form before any permanent commitment. Nothing has been signed yet, but sources on both sides describe the talks as advanced, with Chelsea, Villa and the player’s camp all working toward the same outcome.

Emery’s long interest in Alejandro Garnacho
As reported by The Athletic, Unai Emery has admired Garnacho for a long time, and Villa’s manager tried to sign him last summer before he chose Chelsea instead. That interest never really faded. New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has already addressed the situation, saying the club is working with Garnacho and his representatives to find the right solution, a diplomatic way of acknowledging that his season at Stamford Bridge hasn’t gone to plan.
One Premier League goal all year is a modest return for a player who arrived carrying real attacking expectations. The bigger concern for Chelsea is fitness rather than talent alone, since Garnacho’s game relies on space to run into, and Enzo Maresca’s possession-heavy system at Stamford Bridge rarely gave him that room. With Sporting winger Geovany Quenda now in and Morgan Rogers set to arrive, the Blues have suddenly stacked their wing options, leaving little space for Garnacho.

What the deal would mean for Villa’s squad
If the move goes through, Garnacho will be Villa’s fourth summer signing. Villa have also trimmed their squad heavily on the other side of the ledger, with departures as Donyell Malen, Youri Tielemans, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin all moved on this summer.
Garnacho would offer something different to Rogers, who thrives on link-up play and clever movement between the lines, while Garnacho is a more direct dribbler who looks to beat his man one-on-one. That variety matters for a Premier League squad still searching for width on both flanks, a balance Emery has clearly been building toward all summer in football. With Jadon Sancho’s loan spell over and Leon Bailey now expected to leave amid a concrete approach from Hull City, Villa are short on natural wide options heading into the new season. Garnacho wouldn’t just add depth, he’d fill an actual gap left by two departures on the same flank.
Manchester United will also be watching closely, since their sell-on clause entitles them to ten percent of any eventual fee. Nothing is guaranteed this late in the window, but for now, Villa Park looks like Garnacho’s next destination.
