Christopher Nkunku’s fall from grace continues as brutal AC Milan concern emerges

Christopher Nkunku’s fall from grace has been quite something.

The French attacker joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023. Injuries and his failure to make any of the front positions his own led to a disappointing stint in West London, though.

Despite criticism at the time, the Blues chose to cut him loose and agreed a deal with AC Milan worth £36 million last summer.

Nkunku was expected to thrive in Serie A and make Chelsea regret their decision. That hasn’t been the case at all, though.

The 28-year-old has endured another torrid spell, and according to reports, will be leaving the San Siro after just one year.

Nkunku has started just 12 Serie A games this season, scoring five goals. These numbers are well below what the Rossoneri would’ve expected when they signed him.

Massimiliano Allegri has continued to go with Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic in attack, leaving little space for Nkunku, and according to Tutto Mercato, that has inspired the Italians to get rid in the summer.

Surprisingly, West Ham striker Nicolas Fullkrug, who joined the Rossoneri on loan in January, is believed to fit Allegri’s striker profile better. The German is considered to be the better player physically; interesting considering how poor he’s been in the Premier League.

Either way, Nkunku looks to be out of favour with no way back in. Where he could move to next remains unknown at this stage, though.

Chelsea vindicated in their decision to ditch Nkunku

Although many fans didn’t think selling Nkunku last summer was the right decision, it seems Chelsea’s ownership have been proven right.

Very few doubted the Frenchman’s ability, his problem was always his application.

Of course, injury setbacks didn’t help , but enough patient was given. The fact he averaged a goal just over every three matches left the Blues with little choice.

Moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League and being a success isn’t something every player achieves but to continue to struggle elsewhere is a major red flag.

For Nkunku, who still has four years left on his deal at AC Milan, this summer will be another crossroads in his career.

Faced with the prospect of playing for a fourth club in just three years, the 28-year-old must know he’s running out chances to prove himself as one of Europe’s top marksman.
