Chelsea fans won’t like club’s plans for next manager
The biggest decision Chelsea will make this summer will be regarding their next manager. For the four seasons under BlueCo, that has been a trial-and-error method. And there have been plenty of errors to say the least. Graham Potter and Liam Rosenior both failed to meet minimum expectations. Mauricio Pochettino left just when it looked like he was building something. Enzo Maresca walked away six months after winning the Club World Cup and securing Champions League qualification.
In the case of the latter two, the exits were believed to be due to disagreements with the ownership. And there are serious doubts about whether any manager can work successfully under the existing model.
BlueCo have painted themselves into a corner here. There is little to no room for error anymore. Whether you look at the fan frustration or the financial condition of the club, they simply need to get this right. But after what we have witnessed for the past four seasons, it is hard to be confident that they will.
The latest update on the managerial search will not go down well with most fans. It looks like not much weight is being given to fan opinion.
Chelsea continue to search for someone who fits their ‘structure’
‘Structure’, ‘model’ and ‘project’ are words that Chelsea fans have learned to dread under the BlueCo leadership. And it looks like it could be more of the same when it comes to the next manager.
Fans had been hoping that after the Rosenior era, which lasted all of 107 days, the club would recognise the need to shake up their structure. But it looks like that is not going to be the case.
A lot of people read this update as the club going for someone like Marco Silva or Andoni Iraola, even though most fans would prefer Xabi Alonso. That might not be the case though.
Who is going to be Chelsea’s next manager?
That is the answer all of us want to find out as soon as possible. But unfortunately, it will take a little longer. And there is a good possibility that a lot of fans won’t like whoever the appointment ends up being.
Now, to be fair, it does feel like someone like Alonso would be a better fit for this squad than a coach like Iraola, who plays a high-intensity style of football.
But then, it has been suggested that Alonso would want more control than currently on offer. And this Chelsea ownership has not been willing to give that to previous managers.
