Cesc Fabregas gives Chelsea two-word response they wanted after Como open door for exit

Cesc Fabregas says that that he’ll ‘of course’ manage in the Premier League one day after his boss gave him the green light to take the Chelsea job. Fabregas, 39, is high on the list of potential candidates to become the Blues’ next permanent manager after they sacked Liam Rosenior after just three months.
Calum McFarlane has been placed in charge until the end of this season, giving Chelsea ample time to appoint Rosenior’s successor. It’s understood that Stamford Bridge chiefs have made contact with the likes of Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva, while Como president Mirwan Suwarso recently said that Fabregas would be free to leave ‘if he wishes’.
Now the man himself has spoken. Fabregas revealed in an interview with the Telegraph that he’ll ‘of course’ return to the Premier League, having spent a combined 12-and-a-half years in England as a player.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world,” the Spaniard added. “I’ve always been very, very clear about it. I felt it as a player, I feel it as a coach, as a fan.

“But (Jose) Mourinho told me one day when I was at Chelsea, ‘I still have 30 years to work’. So I could be here (Como) for 10 years, and you can still go to the Premier League in 12, 15 years.
“Football is so unpredictable, it changes in one second. One day, you are the best. The day after, you are the worst. So let’s enjoy the moment. I like to enjoy the moment. It’s beautiful what we are living here. Let’s see what the future holds.”
Fabregas’ stock continues to rise at Como, who are fifth in the Serie A table in just their second season in the Italian top flight. The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, who’s also a stakeholder in the club, took charge immediately after they won promotion in 2024, having previously had a spell as caretaker and serving as a first-team coach.

On the banks of Lake Como, Fabregas enjoys something which might not be afforded to him at Chelsea: control. The Blues have five different sporting directors in place and continue to be accused of having took many cooks.
“I take all the football decisions,” Fabregas explained. “The sporting director, he’s day-to-day with me and we see football the same way.
“The signings, we work with data, we have our scouting and stuff, but it needs to be something that I believe in. It needs to be a player that I’m convinced about.
“I’m so happy and lucky that we have a president that trusts me a lot and has given me the confidence to go and take all the football decisions. That, for me, is really important.”
