Jamie Carragher suggests Chelsea’s owners are to blame for latest defeat

Overall, it has been a disastrous campaign for the Blues, and Carragher has claimed that all of their problems start from the top. In other words, Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors are to blame for the crisis the club currently find themselves in.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, the former Liverpool and England defender said: “It’s shocking and it comes from the top. There are five or six really top players on the pitch today and they’ve been beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team. Less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners.”

Another defeat was the last thing that Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali needed, with the two owners already under scrutiny after the sacking of Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior was given a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge but did not even last four full months in the dugout.

Xabi Alonso has been linked with the Chelsea job, but you can imagine that Carragher is telling his former Liverpool teammate to stay far away from BlueCo.

How Chelsea board can turn things around

This season is a write-off. With the form they are in, Chelsea are not going to qualify for Europe and have zero chance of beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The 2026/27 campaign can be a more successful one for them, but the board have to get a few things right this summer.

For example, they have to hire the right manager, bring in some more experienced players and maybe even get rid of their main two sporting directors who have assembled this underperforming squad.

Knowing BlueCo, though, chances are they will not do any of those things, which could mean even more misery for Chelsea supporters next year.
