“Looks like a broken football club right now”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has taken another dig at Chelsea after their 3-1 loss at home to Nottingham Forest. The former defender called the Blues a broken football club, adding that there was no connect between the players and the staff.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, Carragher said that Chelsea did not look like the side that dominated against PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup final last summer. He added that the performances today against a heavily rotated Nottingham Forest side showed that they have not spent well and said:

“It’s shocking and it comes from the top. There’s five or six really top players on the pitch today and they’ve been beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team. Less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners.”

“There’s no connection between the players and the staff, the players and the fans. In some ways, it’s a good thing because it tells you that football isn’t just all about spending money, buying players and this revolving door. It’s about creating togetherness and there’s nothing there. They look like a broken football club right now.”

Carragher pointed at Malo Gusto’s lazy shirt pull on Taiwo Awoniyi when they were 1-0 down to give the away side a penalty, summed up the club and said:

“This goal sums up Chelsea. It’s sloppy, lazy, it’s a lack of discipline – and that’s not just today but across the season with the red cards they’ve had. You think of the team they’ve got on the pitch here compared to Nottingham Forest, they shouldn’t be 2-0 down.”

Chelsea have now lost six successive Premier League matches for the first time since 1993.

Chelsea interim coach comments on sixth successive loss

Calum McFarlane spoke to the media after the loss today, admitting that it was ruthless to be losing six successive matches in the league. He added that the focus now shifts to Liverpool, and the training this week ahead of the game at Anfield.

“Yes, it’s a ruthless game. It’s a really high level. You cannot start games the way we did in the Premier League against a team of Forest’s quality. All we can focus on right now and all I can focus on right now is we’re in tomorrow, we’re training tomorrow, we’ll review the game, we’ll try and find the reason why and try and make sure that the performance level is of a higher level against Liverpool in five days’ time. I’m not looking at the bigger picture, the why, it’s about right now and attacking the moment right now.”

Chelsea were without Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto today, and the interim coach said they were out with knocks.
