Man Utd Urged To Sell £55M Flop To Help Fund 5 New Additions

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville thinks it may be time for Man Utd to “trade” in Mason Mount this summer.

The 27-year-old has struggled with form and fitness since his initial £55m move from Chelsea three years ago.

Neville says he wants two midfielders, a left-back, and a centre-back to be brought in, but he feels Mount’s sale would help provide additional funds for United’s summer transfer plans:

“Look, if you could, then maybe trade Mason Mount for someone else who maybe can play in and out and can be a bit more flexible across the midfield and forward line, then I would say go for a fifth (signing).”

“But if you can’t, I would say those four areas are the priority, and they’ve got to be top-notch, those players.”

Zirkzee is more likely to leave than Mount

While many fans would agree with the idea of selling the England international, there are other members of the first-team squad who are seen as more dispensable.

Manager Michael Carrick has not given Joshua Zirkzee many minutes since his appointment back in January.

The Dutchman has had seven brief cameos off the bench, with his minutes totalling just 36 minutes. He has several suitors in Italy, so his exit over the coming weeks/months looks inevitable.

Who will Man Utd target this summer?

In terms of the 4/5 new additions that Neville is advocating for, Director of Football Jason Wilcox agrees with most of the positions that Neville cites for being reinforced.

A left-back is high on the agenda, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Newcastle’s Lewis Hall having all been linked.

The midfield targets are widely known – Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Atalanta’s Ederson are just some of the names under consideration.

However, a left winger is said to be a more likely addition than a centre-back, despite the club having shown interest in Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven.
