The Independent’s Miguel Delaney has been looking for his first exclusive in the big story of Chelsea’s hunt for a new manager, and it looks like he’s got one.

He claims that former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is “under consideration” to take over in the summer.

The reasoning Delaney cites is that Chelsea feel they’ve made “significant progress in instilling a football identity,” and they consider Xavi a manager who fits with that identity.

Anyone who has watched us lose six Premier League games in a row will be seirously wondering what that football identity is.

Xavi not a natural fit for Chelsea as manager

Xavi would fit with one part of the desired characteristics for a new boss – he’s a respected and highly decorated former player of the highest level.

But he fails the other part of the test – he had no Premier League experience, either as player or coach.

It’s also very questionable whether he would want to work in our restrictive setup where five sporting directors have a lot of control over first team matters.
