Chelsea are keeping their options open despite holding positive conversations with Xabi Alonso according to reports.

The Blues are in the midst of searching for another head coach after they sacked Liam Rosenior last month, less than four months after appointing him.

Rosenior became the second head coach to depart Stamford Bridge this season, following Enzo Maresca’s January exit.

Chelsea are thought to have a shortlist of five or six names, with Alonso and Andoni Iraola believed to be the preferred candidates at this stage.

The Blues are said to have carried out checks on Marco Silva, Filipe Luis and Oliver Glasner, but they’r believed to be lower down in the club’s thinking currently.

Chelsea reportedly feel Iraola is ready to take on a big job, whilst Alonso has already managed at the highest level.

Alonso is said to be the preferred candidate, but The Guardian have reported despite holding positive talks the Blues are keeping their options open.

The report adds Chelsea’s hierarchy are confident of getting their favoured candidate, whilst there’s optimism after early talks with Alonso’s camp.

Alonso has been out of work since being sacked by Real Madrid in January, whilst he guided Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title in an unbeaten season.
