Bayern want Anthony Gordon transfer fee down

Bayern Munich are reportedly set to back sporting director Max Eberl in his transfer pursuit of Anthony Gordon, but he would need to bring the price down.
As reported by Christian Falk in his latest CF Bayern Insider column, Newcastle United could be looking for as much as £75m for Gordon.
That looks like being too much for Bayern, with the club’s board keen on the player but for a lower price, according to Falk.

It remains to be seen what kind of agreement could be struck, with Bayern initially looking to pay around £51.9m, though that’s a long way off Newcastle’s valuation.

Discussing the latest on the Gordon transfer saga, Falk explained that a key meeting had taken place between Eberl and the Bayern board to discuss this summer’s plans.
Gordon is a big part of that, with the England international impressing in the Premier League and the Champions League this season, but it’s clearly not a straightforward deal to get done.
“So came the day when Max Eberl had to present his plans for the upcoming summer transfer window. The big plan, as will come as no surprise given how much we’ve talked about him, is Anthony Gordon,” Falk said.

“The big question was whether or not the supervisory board would be prepared to go full throttle for the Englishman and help Eberl pay the money Newcastle are looking for. The answer was yes; the supervisory board will be backing Eberl, but he has to bring the price down a little.
“My colleague, Ben Jacobs, has now also confirmed that there is an agreement with the player, and the fee is looking closer to £75m (€86.5m). It’s a little less than the £80m we discussed previously, but it’s still too much for Bayern Munich.
“This will be the key point now. Max Eberl has to bring the transfer fee closer to what Bayern are prepared to pay. At the beginning, they were thinking of €60m (£51.9m), but that won’t be enough. Perhaps they could make things work with add-ons attached or by spreading out the transfer over a number of years.
“Regardless, the big decision was that Bayern will go for Anthony Gordon. They want him this summer. If it works, perhaps they won’t need additional transfers.
“Of course, it’s very much within Bayern’s nature to keep alternatives in mind, which is why they have a “B-List” of offensive players in case things don’t work out. Mika Godts of Ajax is one of the names on the list, but they don’t want to go for him at this point in time – certainly not while they believe Gordon remains gettable.”
Who else could be in the mix for Anthony Gordon?
Gordon’s future has not yet been resolved, but it looks increasingly likely that he won’t still be at Newcastle next season, that’s for sure.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported on his YouTube channel that Gordon has “serious chances” of leaving St James’ Park after the end of this season.
The England international has also been linked with Chelsea by Simon Phillips, and it could also be worth watching out for Liverpool and Arsenal, as per a previous report from the Telegraph.
In many ways, Gordon might make more sense for those clubs as Bayern already have so much quality and depth in attack that it’s hard to see the 25-year-old playing regularly at the Allianz Arena.
